DESIGN DIRECTOR
Flutter.com, London UK March 2001 to Present
Manager for a team of designers, information architects, technical
designers and front-end developers for a leading UK person-to-person
sports betting site. Position is to lead Flutter's architecture, structure,
interaction design and branding for the site. Role requires identifying
and understanding the key business issues and solving them by designing
and implementing creative technological solutions through extensive
research, day-to-day analysis, user interviews and requirements gathering.
Deliverables include functionality diagrams, prototypes and page layouts
to create a next generation interface. The final result was an increase
in turnover from £650,000 per week to £3 million within
five weeks of launch.
As manager
of the group, I am responsible for leading, reviewing and approval of
all information architecture, design, HTML code and other deliverables,
assuring they meet programmer compliance with web coding, back-end architecture
and documentation standards. Introduction to role required restructuring
the Design group and developing the team to harness innovative processes,
creativity and collaboration. Provide employee reviews, direction, development,
mentorship and assignment tasking as well as monitoring budget/expenditure
tracking.
Currently
working on designing a Hong Kong Chinese localised version of the site
due in January 2002.
LEAD INFORMATION
ARCHITECT
Siegelgale, Beverly Hills / New York / San Francisco October 1998
to February 2001
Lead position to recommend and apply Human Factors and user-centred
design concepts to interactive projects for a leading branding, strategy
and design consultancy. Defined roles and responsibilities for the Information
Architecture group. Responsibilities include leadership and training
for information design staff, researching and architecting user-interaction
flows, prototyping interface designs, administering usability tests
and presentations to clients. An emphasis is placed on creating an appropriate,
valuable, easy to use and satisfying user experience while supporting
the overarching goals and branding of the client. Projects require team
integration with Art Directors, Marketing Strategists and Engineers.
Established
a process used by the IA group for defining site user needs, functionality,
navigation, interaction, data flow, and testing. Created an implementation
programme for international versions with focused localization for global
sites. Clients included American Express, Rockwell, CB Richard Ellis,
eHobbies, Archive, Hooked on Phonics, CarsDirect, Capital and Experian.

ARCHITECT CONSULTANT
idealab! Corporate Headquarters, Pasadena US October 2000 to March
2001
Freelance position defining strategies for several of idealab's
online ventures. Focused on implementing the overarching goals defined
by the business objectives into site structure and prototypes. Researched
the technology available for creating a fully integrated, successful
business solution. Worked with the VP of Design, CEO, and the VP of
Brand Strategy to determine the online experience for several projects
including HomesDirect.com, Compete.com, Scan.com, and idealab.com.
SR. INTERFACE
DESIGNER
Streetwise Software, Santa Monica US January 1996 to October 1998
Responsible for direction and design for a series of award winning
consumer graphics, painting and special effects programs. Developed
and designed from inception to completion the overall look and feel,
splash screens, features and effects for products. Organised and directed
a team of programmers, developed requirements for the architecture and
ensured that the interfaces were meeting market needs and strategic
objectives of the company. Reviewed assignments completed by team members
for conformity with coding requirements, budget costs and schedules.
Products included Instant Photo Effects, Instant Photo Artist, Lifetime
Encyclopaedia of Letters.
USER INTERFACE
DESIGNER
Hewlett-Packard, Los Angeles US November 1994 to January 1996
Designed interface for Office integration software as a value-add
product for the DeskJet Divisions of Hewlett-Packard. Developed GUI
requirements by designing an interface that would encourage user interaction
while conforming to programming limitations as well as the needs of
the client. Led team members and assigned project tasks. Researched
user needs through testing and heuristic evaluation. Designed a set
of TrueType fonts, Word and PowerPoint templates for inclusion in product.
QUALITY
ASSURANCE TESTER
GraphicCorp, Los Angeles US May 1993 to September 1993
Primary position was to plan, design and execute tests to ensure
that new and amended programs function as specified and in accordance
with agreed standards. In addition, evaluated interface usability for
beta versions of software products.
