UX DESIGN : RESEARCH : BRAND
As someone focused on user-centered design, one of the biggest challenges I've tackled was reimagining the MSN.com experience at Microsoft. The website had become cluttered and confusing after years of ad-hoc updates, frustrating users and stakeholders alike. To address this, my team conducted extensive user research to deeply understand the core pain points. We took a comprehensive approach - simplifying the information architecture, establishing a modern responsive design system, and aligning stakeholders behind a clear content strategy focused on delivering value.
The research revealed that users were overwhelmed by the density of content and struggled to find what they needed. The redesign prioritized streamlining the experience, surfacing key tasks and features through an intuitive UI. We established design principles like clear information hierarchy, accessible typography, and judicious use of visuals. Stakeholder workshops built alignment on defining the target audiences and crafting a content plan to serve their needs effectively.
The end result was a revamped MSN.com that provided a vastly improved user experience. Page views and engagement metrics increased substantially after launch, validating our user-centric approach. More importantly, qualitative feedback reflected that the redesign made MSN.com feel modern, easy to use, and valuable again for a wide range of users. It was a complex challenge that reinforced the importance of deep user understanding, cross-functional collaboration, and prioritizing simplicity in design.
